20th Century Fox picks up Peruvian pic

North American rights nabbed for 'The Dolphin'

Twentieth Century Fox has picked up the North American rights to Peruvian computer-animated pic "The Dolphin, Story of a Dreamer." Fox released the toon in October across Latin America and Brazil. It scored the biggest opening weekend for a local film in Peru.

Produced by Dolphin Films with Italy's Password and Germany's DDG, Eduardo Schuldt-directed pic is an adaptation of 1996 bestseller "The Dolphin: Story of a Dreamer," written by Sergio Bambaren, one of the pic's producers. Book has been translated into more than 40 languages and has sold more than 15 million copies worldwide.

"This is definitely a dream come true," said Bambaren. "When we started as a company almost four years ago, we never imagined we would come this far." Inspirational story tracks a young dolphin and the challenges it faces as it goes on a quest to realize its dreams.

Celluloid Dreams is handling sales to the rest of the world.
