To do so, it's teaming Nov. 25-27 with Doc Buenos Aires, one of Latin America's best-established doc marts, for a joint Buenos Aires event: Doc Buenos Aires/Latin Side of the Doc.
Covering both theatrical and TV fare, "The principal objective of DBA-LSD is education, communicating to Latin American professionals rules, tools and understanding of international market needs," says Yves Jeanneau of Sunny Side of the Doc.
DBA/LSD will see 24 projects -- 12 Latin American -- pitched before an international jury.
Sunny Side will bring over about 30 commissioning editors, including execs from WNET New York, the Sundance Institute, France's Arte, Finland's YLE, Belgium's RTBF and Spain's Multicanal, TVE and TV3. Some 10 docu distributors will attend.
"More Latin American documentaries are needed," says Marcelo Cespedes, DBA director general. Now's the time to take advantage. "There's demand for material from Latin America as well as Asia and Africa."
