Danny Boyle's approach to film making is unique," said Trevor Green, managing director of Entertainment Film and a member of the body that voted on the award.
Previous recipients of the nod, which will be handed out Feb. 3 at the Marriott Hotel in Grosvenor Square, London, include Variety VP and editorial director Peter Bart, Richard Attenborough, Michael Wilson and Barbara Broccoli.
