Walden will team with Corus Entertainment Inc.'s Nelvana to produce the family comedy, which will be a live-action film mixed with computer-generated characters. Nelvana produced the animated "The Berenstain Bears" television series, which aired on PBS.
The Berenstain books, penned by Jan and the late Stan Berenstain, center on a family of talking bears -- Father Bear, Mother Bear, Brother Bear, Sister Bear and Honey Bear -- living amid other bears in Bear Country. More than 300 Berenstain titles have been published, spawning three TV series.
Walden hasn't hired writers for the pic yet. Shingle recently tapped Mark Dindal to helm live-action family comedy "Housebroken," with Michael De Luca producing as part of Walden continuing to emphasize family comedies.
Levy's directing and producing "Date Night," starring Steve Carell and Tina Fey. He directed and produced both "Night at the Museum" pics.
