Calarco takes helm of 'Boys'

Director replaces Schmidt in musical

Joe Calarco has replaced Erica Schmidt as helmer of “The Burnt Part Boys,” the Off Broadway tuner to be produced by Playwrights Horizons and the Vineyard Theater in the spring.

Calarco (“Shakespeare’s R&J”) previously helmed “Burnt Part” in a developmental production at Barrington Stage in 2006. At the Vineyard, Schmidt — who, according to theater reps, departs the production by mutual agreement — had helmed a more recent lab staging of the tuner.

Exact production dates for the musical by Mariana Elder, Nathan Tysen and Chris Miller remain to be announced.
