The Cologne-based web published chest-thumping numbers on Monday showing an 18.4% share for viewers aged 14-49 and 13.5% overall -- the strongest showing for any Teuton web since January 2004.
RTL, which is celebrating its 25th anni this year, was well ahead of rivals ProSieben (12.3%) and Sat.1 (11.4%) in the target group as well as in front of ARD (12.7%) and ZDF (12.2%) overall.
Leading the way was its casting show "Das Supertalent," which got 38%, as well as its "Bauer sucht Frau" (The Farmer Wants a Wife), which pulled in 24.5%.
"House" was at the top of the heap for RTL among U.S. imports with a 27.4% share in the target group while "CSI" got 21.7%. "Knight Rider" (22.8%), "Monk" (26.8%), "Law & Order" (25.6%), "CSI: Miami" (24.5%) and "Bones" (22.7%) all scored well for RTL.
Separately, RTL said that the Formula One season that ended on Sunday in Abu Dhabi was once again a mainstay. The web had an average market share of 38.2% overall (and 36.3% in the target group) for its coverage of 17 races around the world. Result may have been given a boost by the perf of German driver Sebastian Vettel, who finished second in the championship.
That was up 1.5 points from 2008 overall and up 0.8 point in the target group. There was an average of 5.21 million viewers for the Sunday afternoon races, up from 5.14 million last year.
"Formula One is still in with our viewers, despite all the scandals and all the fears that the economic crisis brought with it," said RTL sports topper Manfred Loppe. "We're pleased with the positive development with the ratings and are confident that will continue in that direction next year."
