'Meatballs' tops Russian B.O. with $3.7 million

Record bow in that territory for Sony pic

"Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs" grossed $3.68 million in its first weekend in Russia, the highest-ever opening for Sony Pictures in Russia. Although that is not a record bow for the country — a year ago, Central Partnership’s "Hitler Kaput" did $5.2 million in its first weekend on 685 prints — the Sony toon’s 438-print release reps an $8,401 per-screen average, beating the $7,591 average of the WWII spoof.
