Film4 sets development head

Lavender to replace recently promoted Butler

LONDON -- Sam Lavender has been upped to head of development at Film4, the film arm of U.K. broadcaster Channel 4.

Lavender, currently Film4's development exec, replaces Katherine Butler, who was recently upped to senior commissioning exec.

Lavender will work with Tessa Ross, controller of Film4 and Channel 4 drama, and Butler to ensure that pics move forward into production. He will also work with directors, writers and producers to help create new projects.

Prior to joining Film4, Lavender was head of development for London-based Film and Music Entertainment.

Film4's recent releases include "Slumdog Millionaire," "Happy-Go-Lucky," "Looking for Eric" and "How to Lose Friends and Alienate People." Upcoming releases include "Never Let Me Go," "The Lovely Bones," "Bunny and the Bull" and "The Eagle of the Ninth."
