Sisters steal show at Rome fest

Nuns take Pole position on red carpet

Federico Fellini would have loved it.

A flock of nuns and a friar demurely did red carpet duty at the Rome Film Festival. And, needless to say, the sisters stole the show.

The paparazzi, who immediately realized they had some truly rare shots, shouted directions to the perplexed group -- "a little to the left!" "look up!" "over here!" -- and the next day they were smack on the front page of broadsheet Corriere della Sera.

The Vatican contingent came to attend a screening of Polish political drama "Popieluszko: Freedom Is Within Us," a biopic about Jerzy Popieluszko, the heroic priest murdered in 1984 by the Communist secret police when he was an outspoken supporter of the Solidarity movement founded by Lech Walesa. Popieluszko is being considered for beatification.

Walesa, who was also on hand, chose to pose with Rome mayor Gianni Alemanno. But they only made the inside pages.
