None of those thesps are definitively signed on for a full production, and a rep for LCT says no plans for the tuner have yet been nailed down. Still, such a starry preliminary cast bodes wells for the show, which is said to be a Broadway possibility for as early as next spring.
Hayek would be a buzzworthy Hollywood addition to the legit scene, while Biel, who appeared over the summer in "Guys and Dolls" at the Hollywood Bowl, has been eyeing theater projects in recent months. Both Morrison ("Glee") and Szot were in the original cast of the LCT revival of "South Pacific," still running at the org's Vivian Beaumont Theater.
Joanna Gleason and Argentinian actress Mia Maestro ("Alias") also were among the thesps to perform in the reading.
Based on Pedro Almodovar's 1988 pic, the musical version of "Women on the Verge" is penned by composer-lyricist David Yazbek and book writer Jeffrey Lane, also collaborators on "Dirty Rotten Scoundrels." Bartlett Sher, the "South Pacific" helmer who is working with Yazbek on brewing musical "Bruce Lee: Journey to the West," directs.
LCT's Rialto staging of Sarah Ruhl's "In the Next Room or the Vibrator Play" begins previews later this week at the Lyceum Theater. A second Broadway offering for the company's 2009-10 season remains to be announced.
