BAFTA Scotland unveils nominations

'Loop,' 'Killers,' 'Crying' among film nominees

LONDON -- "In the Loop," "New Town Killers" and "Crying With Laughter" lead the race in the film categories of the BAFTA Scotland Awards, whose noms were unveiled Monday.

Political satire "Loop" took noms for helmer Armando Iannucci, thesp Peter Capaldi, and scribes Jesse Armstrong, Simon Blackwell, Tony Roche and Iannucci.

Fast-paced chase pic "New Town Killers" has noms for helmer Richard Jobson, thesp James Anthony Pearson and in the feature film category.

"Crying With Laughter" also had a nom for feature film, as well as noms for thesp Stephen McCole and scribe Justin Molotnikov, who also directed the thriller about a standup comedian whose life spins out of control.

In the TV categories, David Tennant received an acting nom for "Doctor Who," competing against Robert Carlyle in "The Unloved" and Bill Paterson for "Spanish Flu -- The Forgotten Fallen."

TV femme thesp noms were Stella Gonet for hospital-set sudser "Holby City," Lindsay Duncan for Margaret Thatcher biopic "Margaret" and Daniela Nardini for weird murder mystery "New Town," which was also nommed in the TV drama category and for Annie Griffin's script.

"River City," "The Tears Welled" and "Eilbheas" also took noms for best TV drama.

The awards, which also cover vidgames, and online and mobile entertainment, will take place Nov. 8.
