The pic, which also won the top prize in Un Certain Regard at the Cannes Film Festival in May, is a disturbing portrait of a father who keeps his three kids in total isolation from the world.
The Louve d'Or is awarded to the best first, second or third feature in the fest's Intl. Section and comes with check for C$15,000 ($14,500). The jury was headed by Toronto Film Festival co-director Cameron Bailey.
Chao Gan's Chinese-German co-production, "The Red Race," received the Louve d'Or jury's special mention
Acting prize in the Intl. Section went to Peruvian thesp Magaly Solier for her role in "The Milk of Sorrow," about the abuse of women in Peru, which also snagged the Assn. Quebecoise des Critiques de Cinema prize for film.
The AQCC jury gave special mentions to Fredrik Edfeldt's "The Girl" and Alexis Dos Santos' British pic "Unmade Beds."
The Daniel Langlois Innovation Award was given to helmer Ismail Necmi's Turkish pic, "Should I Really Do It?"
The Grand Prix Focus for best feature in the all-Canuck Focus section went to Quebec helmer Simon Galiero's "Nuages sur la ville," with the jury's special mention going to Sherry White's "Crackie."
The people's choice award for film in Temps 0 -- a sidebar devoted to experimental pics -- was won by helmers Helen Cattet and Bruno Forzani's French-Belgian co-production "Amer."
The Montreal Festival du Nouveau Cinema -- the city's oldest film fest and the smaller, edgier rival to the Montreal World Film Festival -- wrapped Saturday, with a screening of helmers Arnaud and Jean-Marie Larrieu's "Happy End," a French romantic drama starring Mathieu Amalric, Catherine Frot and Karin Viard.
