BRUSSELS -- Alexandre Desplat was named film composer of the year at the World Soundtrack Awards at Saturday night's closing ceremony of the Ghent Film Festival.
The French composer was honored for his work on "The Curious Case of Benjamin Button," "Coco Before Chanel," "Largo Winch" and "Cheri."
"Button" also drew the nod for original film score of the year.
Kudos for original song went to "Jai ho" from "Slumdog Millionaire," with music by A.R. Rahman and lyrics by Gulzar and Tanvi Shah.
American Nico Muhly was named discovery of the year for his work on "The Reader," while Marvin Hamlisch collected a lifetime achievement award.
Carter Burwell's score for "Twilight" took the aud nod.
