Keira Knightley to star in 'Misanthrope'

Actress making her West End debut in comedy

Keira Knightley will make her West End debut, starring opposite Damian Lewis in Moliere’s “The Misanthrope.”

Helmed by Thea Sharrock (“Equus”) and designed by Hildegard Bechtler (Broadway’s “The Seagull,” “Hedda Gabler”), the play opens Dec. 17 at the Comedy Theater following previews from Dec. 7. Producers are Howard Panter and Tali Pelman for the Ambassador Theater Group.

Martin Crimp’s translation, first seen in 1996 in a Young Vic production led by Ken Stott and Elizabeth McGovern, updates the action from 17th century Paris to the entertainment industry scene of contemporary London. Tara Fitzgerald, Tim McMullan and Dominic Rowan complete the cast.
