The move takes "Nine" out of direct competition with "The Road," the Weinstein Co.'s post-apocalyptic road pic skedded for Nov. 25.
Shift reps yet another release change made because of "The Road," whose release was moved several times before TWC finally settled on the Nov. 25 date.
The Weinstein Co. said "Nine's" date change was not made due to production delays.
"Nine" will now open against James Cameron's "Avatar," serving as counterprogramming for L.A. and New York specialty auds. The Christmas expansion pits it against "Sherlock Holmes," with Robert Downey Jr., and Meryl Streep-Steve Martin-Alec Baldwin romantic comedy "It's Complicated."
Based on Federico Fellini's "8½," "Nine" stars Daniel Day-Lewis, Nicole Kidman and Penelope Cruz and follows a director confronting a midlife crisis while juggling the various women in his life.
