Showtime streams kudos contenders

Orgs to view shows online for voting purposes

Following streaming of its programs to members of the Academy of Television Arts and Sciences for the Emmys, Showtime has made its wares available online to other groups as well.

Cabler has set up access codes to stream its programming to the Screen Actors Guild, Producers Guild of America, Writers Guild of America and other orgs for kudos voting purposes. By initiating the process, net has been able to cut back on the cost of screeners to thousands of potential voters.

The availability of such programs began Sept. 1 and, according to the net, more than 15,000 views have already been logged.

Richard Licata, exec VP of corporate communications for Showtime, said that as a result of the successful TV Acad effort, "It seems like the perfect progression to offer the same opportunity to various guilds."

Showtime recently saw strong ratings for the season premieres of "Dexter" and "Californication," and just renewed the latter series for a fourth season.
