Zodiak takes control of Dangerous

Docu, drama specialist added to portfolio

CANNES -- Ambitious content company Zodiak Entertainment has added another U.K. shingle to its growing tally by taking a majority stake in factual and drama specialist Dangerous.

Zodiak, which is attempting to raise its profile at the Mipcom sales mart, said the move represented another stage in the outfit's ambitions to take on such giants as Endemol and FremantleMedia on the global stage.

Zodiak CEO Lorenzo Pellicioli said: "Since launching less than a year ago, Zodiak Entertainment has become a major force in content and distribution.

"Content will be the name of the game in the future, more than it was in the past, and we are delighted to welcome Dangerous to our portfolio of more than 30 companies in 18 territories."

Pellicioli, who declined to put a figure on the deal with Dangerous, suggested that in future Zodiak's strategy would be more focused on organic growth than third-party acquisitions.

Dangerous is internationally recognized for its high-end shows such as the Apollo 11 moon landing drama "Moon Shot" and docus "9/11 The Twin Towers" and "Diana -- The Last Days of a Princess."

The shingle's co-pro partners have included the BBC, Discovery Channel, ITV1 and ProSieben.

At Mipcom, Zodiak also announced that it had formed a new joint venture with the Ricky Martin Entertainment Group, RM 5to Elemento.

The outfit will be based in Miami and target the Latin American and U.S. Hispanic markets.

Ricky Martin Entertainment Group CEO Bruno Del Granado will run RM 5to Elemento.
