PBS tops news Emmys with six wins

'Brian Williams' scores three awards

PBS won six Emmys at Monday night's News and Documentary Emmy Awards at Gotham's Frederick P. Rose Hall, more than any other network.

NBC took home five, with "NBC Nightly News With Brian Williams" scoring three awards, including breaking news story ("Bailout Talks Collapse") and continuing coverage of a news story ("Tip of the Spear").

CBS tied the Peacock with five, as venerable newsmagazine "60 Minutes" won three Emmys for pieces on "The Bailout," "War Against Women" and "The Wasteland."

PBS' winning shows were more spread out. "Frontline" won a pair, while "Bill Moyers Journal," "Illicit: The Dark Trade," "Nova" and "P.O.V." also scored with voters.

On the docu side, HBO had four wins -- two for Oscar winner "Taxi to the Dark Side," plus one each for "The Art of Failure: Chuck Connelly Not for Sale" and "Nanking."

Barbara Walters was presented with the Lifetime Achievement Award and posthumous tributes were given to the Eye's iconic news anchor Walter Cronkite and "60 Minutes" founder Don Hewitt.
