Salma Hayek to receive Anthony Quinn Award

Almas honoree embraces role as a mother

Salma Hayek's name does not appear in the Alma Awards category of sports television. But there's always next year. In 2009, the actress-producer-mother is being honored multiple times, making her possibly the most oft-mentioned person at the kudos show. Hayek gets an acting nod for "30 Rock" and another for producing "Ugly Betty." She is also the recipient of the org's Anthony Quinn Award for General Excellence.

If the Almas also had a mom category, Hayek would definitely appear there.

"Having a family has definitely influenced the work choices I make in my life now," she says of her daughter, Valentina.

On the subject of her upcoming film "The Vampire's Assistant," she enthuses as much about writer-director Paul Weitz and costar John C. Reilly and her "very unique and amusing character" as she does of working "in a situation where I got to spend a lot of time with my child."

Regarding "Grown Ups," Hayek again mentions not only the actors and creative team but the fact that "almost everyone who worked on the film had children around the same age as my child, which created a great family atmosphere for Valentina."

What a mom!
