BARCELONA Veteran Catalan helmer Bigas Luna ("Jamon, Jamon," "My Name Is Juani") will shoot "D D Hollywood," toplining Elsa Pataky ("Snakes on a Plane") and Peter Coyote .
Pic is produced by Spain's Virgili Films, Canica Films and Malvarrosa Media in association with Spain's Canal Plus. Budget is around E6 million ($8.6 million).
"D D" is the second part of a trilogy focused on young women dreaming of escaping their lowly circumstances, or even hitting the bigtime.
First pic in the saga, toplining Spanish actress Veronica Echegui, was "My Name Is Juani" (2006). "The last film will turn on an actress who finally makes it," Luna said.
Pic will begin lensing, with Albert Pasqual as cinematographer, in Los Angeles and the Ciudad de la Luz studios in Spain.
Luna also has in development an ambitious digital 3-D project, "Second Origin." Based on a classic Catalan bestseller by Manuel de Pedrolo, "Origin" is a fable in an apocalyptic world after an alien attack where a couple of kids survive and become the world's new Adam and Eve.
