U.K.'s Fiver takes 'Knight Rider'

Channel also buys 'The City,' '10 Things'

LONDON -- Cash-strapped U.K. web Five has acquired a trio of U.S. shows including the remake of "Knight Rider," axed earlier in the year by NBC, for its digital weblet, Fiver.

The hope is to boost the upstart station's popularity with the under-25s.

The reinvention of the 1980s skein "Knight Rider," bought from NBC Universal Intl. Television Distribution and aired previously in the U.K. by pay web, Sci-Fi, stars Justin Bruening, Val Kilmer as the voice of the intelligent vehicle KITT, Sydney Tamiia Poitier and Bruce Davison.

Fiver has also bought "The City," a spinoff from the MTV reality show "The Hills," and the ABC Family vehicle "10 Things I Hate About You."

Five's acquisitions topper Jeff Ford said the intention was to highlight more "imaginative programming to draw people in and build on Fiver's unique and exclusive parts."
