The MPAA has enlisted Indian exhibs including Adlabs and Fun in an initiative to end piracy via camcording in major cities.
The campaign launched Monday in the capital Delhi, with staffers in theater chains nationwide being trained to raise awareness of unauthorized recordings of pics.
According to a U.S. India Business Council/Ernest and Young report the Indian film industry lost $959 million and 571,896 jobs to piracy in 2008.
"With the advancement of technology, piracy is getting a boost but the same technology can also be used to curb the spread," said Tushar Dhingra, Adlabs chief operating officer.
