'Host 2' lines up budget support

$1.5 million grant going towards developing CGI

SEOUL -- Korea-Singapore co-production "The Host 2" will receive $1.5 million from the government-backed Korea Creative Content Agency's global projects technology development support program.

The cash will go to production house Chungoerahm and its f/x partner Macrograph to develop CGI for the $10 million-budget pic, a prequel to helmer Bong Joon-ho's 2006 hit "The Host," about a river monster that terrorizes the citizens of Seoul.

California-based CGI production house The Orphanage created the special effects in "The Host,"

Singaporean production company Boku Films will kick in $5 million towards the budget, half of which is coming from Singapore's Media Development Authority.

No director or cast has been set; the pic is being scripted and is due for release in 2011.
