PBS has taken an early lead in the Daytime Emmys tally, scoring 15 on Saturday night during the kudofest’s creative arts awards.
The pubcaster’s haul included outstanding childen’s series, “From the Top at Carnegie Hall.” That series’ auspices include exec producer Don Mischer - who happens to be busy at the moment planning the Primetime Emmys.
PBS also won for outstanding children’s animated show, “Word World,” preschool children’s series (“Between the Lions”) for lifestyle show (“This Old House.”)
Among other winners, Twentieth TV’s “Cristina’s Court,” hosted by Judge Cristina Perez, won the legal show category for the second year in a row.
Among other Emmys, Food Network’s “Grill It! With Bobby Flay” won for top culinary program, while the channel’s Ina Garten, who’s behind “Barefoot Contessa,” won for top lifestyle/culinary host.
Top winners included ABC’s “All My Children,” with four Emmys so far this year - along with “El Tigre” and the “Ellen DeGeneres Show.” Earning three apiece were “One Life to Live,” “Sesame Street” and “The View.”
Among networks, after PBS was ABC, with 10 Daytime Emmys, followed by Nickelodeon (8), syndicated fare (6), CBS (5), Food Network (3) and Cartoon Network and NBC, with 2 each.
YouTube even picked up an Emmy, for the short “I Met the Walrus,” which won for “new approaches in daytime entertainment.”
Game show emcee Alex Trebek hosted the Saturday night event, which took place at the Bonaventure Hotel in downtown Los Angeles.
Most of the top daytime Emmy awards will be handed out Sunday night at the Orpheum Theatre in downtown; the 36th Annual Daytime Emmy Awards will air on the CW starting at 8 p.m.
