Cinematheque to honor Matt Damon

Thesp to be feted at next year's event

Matt Damon will be feted with the American Cinematheque Award at next year's event, which will air on ABC.

Nod marks a first for Damon, who has yet to receive a major career achievement award.

With Damon accepting the invitation, ABC jumped at the chance to broadcast the event, which AMC had televised the past four years.

The Cinematheque would not confirm the honoree but said the show will be held March 27, so that it will follow awards season.

That means there is no ceremony in 2009. The previous honoree was Samuel L. Jackson, who received the award Dec. 1, 2008; before that, Julia Roberts was lauded Oct. 12, 2007.
