Lewis Black joins up with Epix

Pay channel to run special in December

Although its announced distribution is so far extremely limited, Epix continues to announce early program plans -- including a new special from comedian Lewis Black.

Standup will star in the special "Stark Raving Black," which reps the burgeoning pay channel's first original comedy event.

Spec, to be filmed at Detroit's Fillmore Theater, will run in December. It will also unspool this fall in theaters in 20 U.S. markets, as well as 25 international territories. An introduction to Epix will be featured during the screenings.

"Lewis Black defines the kind of original, smart content Epix is going to deliver," said Epix prexy Mark Greenberg.

Black, known for his regular appearances on "The Daily Show," will tackle politics, the economy and other hot topics.

Besides the special, which will run on Epix's TV and broadband platforms, the deal also includes an online event featuring Black, who will participate in a chat via Epix's website following the show.

Epix, the joint venture of Viacom, MGM and Lionsgate, is set to launch this fall. The new channel has yet to announce any major cable or satellite carriage deals, although it did recently seal a multiplatform deal with Verizon FiOS.
