Cabler has ordered another 10 episodes of the medical drama from Sony Pictures Television. Season two of the series is set to air next summer.
"Hawthorne" stars Pinkett Smith as a dedicated chief of nursing at a busy hospital who struggles to balance her demanding job with her role as a single mom of a teenage daughter. Series has been a solid performer for TNT since its June 16 bow, averaging 3.8 million viewers in its Tuesday 9 p.m. slot.
"Hawthorne" has added to TNT’s heft with a half-dozen original series airing in primetime this summer on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday nights.
"Jada Pinkett Smith’s performance has been a tremendous draw with viewers," said Michael Wright, exec veep of programming for TNT, TBS and TCM.
"Hawthorne" was created by TV drama vet John Masius, who exec produces along with Pinkett Smith, Glen Mazzara and Jamie Tarses. Michael Vartan, Suleka Mathew, David Julian Hirsh, Christina Moore and Hannah Hodson co-star.
