Syndie distrib Program Partners confirmed Friday that the show will not bow as previously skedded in September. The hourlong strip had been cleared on stations covering more than 80% of U.S. TV households, but the weakness in the local TV ad market made it impossible for the distrib to support the cost of mounting a national launch, execs said.
“Our belief in Marie’s creative vision for a new kind of talkshow is unshakable, but in the end, the marketplace this year was simply unyielding,” said Program Partners chief Ritch Colbert.
Osmond is in the midst of a long-term contract to perform nightly with her brother, Donny Osmond, at the Flamingo Hotel in Las Vegas. The talkshow was to have originated from Vegas. She’s set to release an album of gospel tunes later this month and an album of duets with brother Donny in November.
Osmond said in a statement that she’s still up for a daytime TV gig if the market conditions improve.
“This project, under proper conditions, still remains a strong passion of mine,” she said.
