Syfy has recruited former Warner Bros. TV exec Andrew Plotkin to serve as senior VP of original programming.

Based in Los Angeles, he'll report to Mark Stern, Syfy's original programming exec VP and Universal Cable Prods. co-head of original content. He'll work alongside fellow Syfy senior VP Erik Storey.

Stern cited Plotkin's "track record in developing unique, quality programming" in recruiting him to the Syfy team.

Plotkin replaces Tony Optican, who departed earlier this year to head FremantleMedia North America's scripted programming division.

Plotkin's development credits include shows such as "Without a Trace," "Nip/Tuck," "Smallville" and "Cold Case."

Plotkin was most recently an exec producer for China's national broadcaster, CCTV, as that org looked to combine Western production values with Chinese content.

Before that, he and Steve Pearlman ran the Warner Bros. TV-based Class IV Prods., producing projects such as Fox's "Reunion" and the WB's "Related."
