Composer Kitt fits with 'Idiot' team

Green Day punk-opera bows in September

Composer Tom Kitt, who won two Tony awards in June for 'Next to Normal,' will be joining the team for 'American Idiot.'

Tom Kitt, who picked up two 2009 Tonys for musical "Next to Normal," is officially attached to the stage version of "American Idiot," with the composer joining the creative team as music supervisor, arranger and orchestrator.

Also confirmed for the Green Day punk-opera, which bows in September at Berkeley Rep, are "Spring Awakening" designers Christine Jones (sets), Kevin Adams (lights) and Brian Ronan (sound), plus Andrea Lauer (costumes) and Darrel Maloney (video).

"Idiot" is helmed by "Spring Awakening" director Michael Mayer and produced in association with Tom Hulce and Ira Pittelman, lead producers on "Spring." Steven Hoggett ("Black Watch") choreographs.

Show, being closely watched as a candidate for a future life in Gotham, plays Berkeley Sept. 4-Oct. 11.
