Anderson, who produced the stop-motion animation pic with Scott Rudin and Allison Abbate, is expected to attend with voice talent George Clooney, Meryl Streep and Jason Schwartzman.
Pic is based on Brit writer Roald Dahl's kids tale, adapted by Anderson and co-scribe Noah Baumbach. Other voice cast includes Bill Murray, Michael Gambon, Willem Dafoe and Owen Wilson.
20th Century Fox is releasing the pic in the U.K. on Oct. 23.
Selection is a coup for the 16-day fest and underlines a growing confidence among organizers. In May, public funding org the U.K. Film Council granted the fest an extra £1.8 million ($2.7 million) over three years, adding to its $8 million budget.
The coin is being used to boost the fest's profile, to secure more world and international preems, as well as ramping up media coverage by inviting more foreign journalists.
Among new projects to be funded by the cash will be a cross-London film event in partnership with the Mayor of London's office.
