Ferrell finds success with sunscreen

New line sells well, proceeds given to charity

As tanning products go, the names “Forbidden Fruit,” “Sun Stroke” and “Sexy Hot Tan” conjure visions more of spoof than SPF.

But Will Ferrell, whose Ron Burgundy character was notably overcome by the scent of the faux men’s cologne “Sex Panther” in “Anchorman,” has turned into quite a real-life pitchman.

His line of sunscreens — under the dubious names above but all touting real SPF 30 protection and an $11.99 per bottle pricetag — are a hot item, selling 10,000 bottles since the line’s launch in May.

And all the proceeds go to the Cancer for College charity, which was formed in 1993 by Ferrell’s USC frat brother Craig Pollard, a two-time cancer survivor and double amputee. The not-for-profit raises coin for college scholarships aimed at kids who have battled cancer and need financial aid.

The sunscreens can be found at Cancerforcollege.org, Amazon.com and other retailers.
