The space agency will receive the Philo T. Farnsworth Award in honor of the 40th anniversary of the Apollo 11 moon landing and the innovations behind the broadcast of the first moonwalk.
Announcement comes at a somewhat awkward moment, since NASA announced last week that it had lost or erased the data tapes containing the original video of the moonwalk (Daily Variety, July 22).
Four engineering Emmys will also be presented.
Jim Henson Co. will receive a statuette for its Henson Digital Puppetry Studio animation system.
Also receiving Emmys will be the Fujinon Precision Focus Assist system, Litepanels LED lighting products and the Dolby DP600 Program Optimizer.
The Grip Trix Electric Motorized Camera Dolly will draw an Engineering Plaque from the TV Academy.
The Engineering Awards will be presented Saturday, Aug. 22, at the Renaissance Hotel in L.A.
