Pic, which went into production in June on location in Paris, Monaco and Morocco, tells the story of a ladies' man hired by families to break up undesirable couplings. His unblemished record is put to the test, however, when he's asked to break up the perfect couple.
Pascal Chaumeil directs the pic penned by Laurent Zeitoun, Jeremy Doner and Yohan Gromb. Quad's Nicolas Duval Adassovsky and Yann Zenou are producing along with Zeitoun.
Universal Pictures Intl. takes French theatrical and homevideo distribution rights, while international sales will be handled by Gregoire Melin at Kinology.
Focus Features Intl.'s exec VP of international production Clare Wise and director of European creative J.J. Lousberg are overseeing the production, along with Quad's Duval Adassovsky and Zenou.
Pic, which will be released theatrically in 2010, is Focus Features Intl.'s second French-language feature. Helmer Joann Sfar's "Gainsbourg, je t'aime, moi non plus," a biopic of iconic French singer Serge Gainsbourg, is in post-production.
Universal Pictures merged its international production arm, led by Christian Grass, with Focus Features in January to create Focus Features Intl.
Under the stewardship of co-topper Grass, FFI has forged close relationships with some of world cinema's leading filmmakers, including Timur Bekmambetov, Park Chan-wook and the Mexican triumvirate of Guillermo del Toro, Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu and Alfonso Cuaron through their shingle Cha Cha Cha. FFI has also inked multiyear partnerships with Italian shingle Cattleya and German banner UFA Cinema.
"Heartbreaker" is "indicative of the caliber of local productions that we will be partnering on in France," Grass said.
