Pair to enter 'Next Room'

Benanti, Cerveris to star in Ruhl play

Laura Benanti and Michael Cerveris will play the late-19th century woman and her doctor husband whose pioneering experiments with an electrical therapy device drive the comedy in Sarah Ruhl's "In the Next Room, or the Vibrator Play," opening Nov. 19 at Broadway's Lyceum Theater.

Les Waters, who directed the play's world premiere in February at Berkeley Rep, will helm the Lincoln Center Theater production, starting previews Oct. 22.

Quincy Tyler Bernstine ("Ruined"), Maria Dizzia ("Eurydice"), Thomas Jay Ryan ("The Temperamentals"), Wendy Rich Stetson and Chandler Williams ("Mary Stuart") complete the cast of the comedy about marriage, intimacy and electricity.

Benanti won a 2008 Tony for featured actress in a musical in "Gypsy" and recently appeared at the Public Theater in Christopher Durang's "Why Torture Is Wrong, and the People Who Love Them." Cerveris' Broadway credits include "Sweeney Todd," "Love/Musik," "Hedda Gabler" and LCT's "Cymbeline."

"In the Next Room" marks the Broadway debut for Ruhl, whose "The Clean House" was staged Off Broadway by LCT.
