Deauville to honor Harrison Ford

Andy Garcia, Robin Wright Penn to attend

BRUSSELS — Harrison Ford will be guest of honor at the Deauville American Film Festival, which unspools in Gaul Sept. 4-13.

Also expected to attend are thesps Andy Garcia and Robin Wright Penn, both receiving tributes from the festival.

Garcia's "City Island" is among films screening out of competition, along with Wright Penn's "The Private Lives of Pippa Lee." Both are unreleased in France.

Other films making their local debuts at the fest include "500 Days of Summer," "Gamer," "Julie & Julia," "Taking Woodstock" and "The Proposal."

Tributes also go to prolific comedy team David Zucker, Jim Abrahams and Jerry Zucker, and to helmer Robert Aldrich.

Deauville's competition retains its focus on indie fare, with nine films competing.

High-profile contenders include Lee Daniels' "Precious" and Cary Fukunaga's "Sin Nombre," both loaded with Sundance kudos. Meanwhile Lynn Shelton's "Humpday" and Oren Moverman's "The Messenger" have Cannes and Berlin appearances to their credit.

Star quality comes in the shape of Robin Williams in "The World's Greatest Dad," picked up locally by Surreal Films.

Many competing pics already have French distribution, with "Humpday" set to cash in fest exposure for its Sept. 16 release by Pyramide Dist.

Even little-seen "The Good Heart," with Paul Dano and Brian Cox, is already in the hands of local distributor Le Pacte.

Jury topper Jean-Pierre Jeunet is joined by the star of his forthcoming "Micmacs a tire-larigot," Dany Boon, a pairing sure to grab local press attention.

Panel is completed with thesps Hiam Abbas, Emilie Dequenne, Sandrine Kiberlain and Geraldine Pailhas, helmer Patrice Leconte and scribe Jean-Loup Dabadie.

Cartier Revelation jury will be led by actress-turned-director Maiwenn Le Besco.

Meanwhile, seven factual features line up for fest side-bar Docs de l'Oncle Sam, including Tom DiCillo's "When You're Strange" and R.J. Cutler's "The September Issue."
