Rothenberg
Steven Rothenberg, president of domestic releasing for Lionsgate, died Saturday of stomach cancer in Burbank. He was 50.
Rothenberg headed the theatrical distribution operations of Lionsgate and its predecessor companies for more than 10 years, overseeing "Crash," "Fahrenheit 9/11," "3:10 to Yuma," and the "Saw" and Tyler Perry franchises.
Rothenberg was active in major film markets and oversaw or coordinated the release of more than 350 movies.
Prior to working at Lionsgate, Rothenberg was president of domestic distribution at Artisan Entertainment, overseeing "The Blair Witch Project," "Buena Vista Social Club" and "Requiem for a Dream."
The New York City native graduated with honors from Stanford and began his show business career with Stanford graduate Roger Corman, for whom he began working in distribution. He went on to work in distribution at Savoy Entertainment and the Samuel Goldwyn Co.
Rothenberg was a member of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences and a board member of Variety -- The Children's Charity.
He is survived by his wife, Frances; two daughters and a son; his mother; and a sister.
A memorial service will be held Tuesday at noon, at Mount Sinai Hollywood Hills.
Donations may be made to Camp Kesem (Campkesem.org), a children's camp for families coping with cancer.
