It will be the first U.S.-set work from the South African playwright, who is now living in San Diego.
Waterston will play Henry Parsons, a South African history professor "forced by a chance encounter to deal with the demons in his heart." Waterston previously played at Long Wharf in Tom Stoppard's "Travesties" in 2005.
In January, Fugard's "Coming Home" had its world preem at the theater, also helmed by Edelstein.
