Peter Morgan, who worked with Working Title on "Frost/Nixon," has written the script and will exec produce with Le Carre, Debra Hayward and Liza Chasin.
Working Title co-toppers Tim Bevan and Eric Fellner will produce. Lensing starts next year.
The story involves a retired British intelligence officer who is asked to return to his old agency to discover which of his former colleagues is a Russian spy.
The BBC made it into a TV miniseries, starring Alec Guinness, in 1979. It aired Stateside as part of PBS' "Great Performances" series in 1980.
Pic will mark Alfredson's English-language directing debut.
Alfredson's vampire pic "Let the Right One In" won best narrative feature at the 2008 Tribeca Film Festival. The English-language remake rights have been acquired by Hammer Films, with "Cloverfield" helmer Matt Reeves attached to direct.
