McKean portrays the owner of a run-down Chi doughnut shop in Letts' follow-up to his Pulitzer winner "August: Osage County." Thesp's Broadway credits include "The Homecoming," "The Pajama Game" and "Hairspray."
No further casting has been confirmed. The Chicago cast also included Jon Michael Hill as the shop owner's teenage employee.
Helmed by Tina Landau, production bowed last year at Chicago's Steppenwolf Theater, where "August" originated. "August" producers Jeffrey Richards, Jean Doumanian and Jerry Frankel also produce the Rialto transfer of "Donuts."
Show begins Broadway previews at the Music Box Theater Sept. 16 ahead of an Oct. 1 opening.
