'Infidel' to travel worldwide

Salt sells comedy to several territories

LONDON -- Upcoming British laffer, "The Infidel," whose hero is a Muslim taxi driver who discovers he's Jewish, has been pre-sold to a number of territories, including the Middle East.

Samantha Horley, who heads up London-based sales and financing outfit, The Salt Company, confirmed the sales following a push at Cannes.

Deals have been closed in France (Euro TV), Germany and Austria (Square One), Australia and New Zealand (Becker), Benelux (Moonlight), Scandinavia (Svensk), Latin America (Sun Distribution), Middle East (Front Row), Turkey (Aqua Pinema), Portugal (Lusomundo), Singapore (Cathay) and Airlines (Entertainment in Motion).

Scripted by David Baddiel, "The Infidel" is an identity crisis comedy centered on Mahmud Nasir, a salt of the earth, blue-collar Muslim cabbie who discovers that he's adopted -- and Jewish.

The so-called "comedy of ethnic proportions" is helmed by Josh Appignanesi and stars Omid Djalili and Richard Schiff.

Film, now in post-production, is produced by Slingshot with Revolver and is due to bow in the U.K. next April.
