Mandate finds 'Hero'

Film company buys rights book adaptation

Mandate Pictures has bought a comedy pitch from scribe D.V. DeVincentis based on Bob Powers' book "You Are a Miserable Excuse for a Hero." Project has been set up with the Mark Gordon Co.

The untitled comedy will follow a nice guy thrust into a series of unusual circumstances after a blind date goes awry. Powers' book was published last year by St. Martin's Griffin.

Mark Gordon will produce and Jordan Wynn of the Gordon banner will serve in some producing capacity. Mandate president Nathan Kahane will exec produce.

"I wanted to drop the most indecisive man on the planet and his idiot friends into a fast-moving action movie and see what happens," DeVincentis said.

DeVincentis' credits include "High Fidelity" and "Grosse Point Blank." Gordon's recent projects include the upcoming Roland Emmerich actioner "2012."
