Comedy Central is increasing the frequency of its roasts to more than once a year for the first time. The specials typically rank high on the list of the cabler's most-watched programs.
The Rivers edition will tape on July 26 at CBS Radford Studios. Previous roasts have been held on the lot at Warner Bros.
"I will be roasting Joan with more gentleness and tenderness than her latest chemical peel," quipped Griffin, who stars in Bravo reality show "Kathy Griffin: My Life on the D List."
Comedy Central's most recent roast, in which Larry the Cable Guy was skewered in March, remains the net's most-watched program for the year.
That special drew 4.1 million viewers, making it the third most watched behind the roasts of Jeff Foxworthy (6.2 million) and Pamela Anderson (4.3 million).
