Mackie, who recently appeared in the Public's production of "The Good Negro," will play Pentheus, the king who is punished for his refusal to worship Dionysus, in the play by Euripides.
Cast already includes Jonathan Groff as Dionysus, as well as Andre De Shields, Joan MacIntosh, George Bartenieff and Karen Kandel.
Outdoor production, helmed by JoAnne Akalaitis with an original score by Philip Glass, will be the second Shakespeare in the Park offering following "Twelfth Night," the Anne Hathaway-starrer currently playing through July 12.
"Bacchae" runs Aug. 11-Aug. 30 at the Delacorte Theater in Central Park.
