Variety will provide industry outreach, marketing and sales support and help with content development for the September conference, set for the Universal Hilton.
It will also produce an editorial feature on 3-D entertainment.
Agreement includes Variety and sister pub Video Business.
Confab, which will now be remonickered the 3D Entertainment Summit in Association With Variety, also has enlisted USC's Entertainment Technology Center as presenting partner.
"We are delighted with the prospects of this new partnership with the 3D Entertainment Summit," said Variety publisher Brian Gott. "Technology has been an area of significant growth for Variety, and partnerships such as this are important for us in order to cement our position at the forefront of this important sector."
Dowling promised the event will include "an unprecedented group of 3-D opinion leaders." The Entertainment Technology Center has played a crucial role in helping facilitate the development of digital cinema, which is the foundation for today's 3-D movies, and is now working to do the same for 3-D TV and other small screens.
Set for Sept. 16-17, the summit will feature panel discussions, exhibits and keynote addresses both days.
