While details are not yet locked in, producer the Araca Group ("Urinetown," "Wicked") has confirmed the show is eyeing a February opening date on the Rialto. A reading is scheduled for Monday.
"Tenor" first played Broadway in a 1989 staging directed by Jerry Zaks and starring Philip Bosco, Victor Garber and Tovah Feldshuh. It was nominated for seven Tony Awards, with Bosco winning for lead actor and Zaks for direction of a play.
Set in 1934, the comedy revolves around a gala performance of "Otello" for the Cleveland Opera Company. When the traumatized star performer is unable to go on, the troupe's general manager persuades his assistant, Max (Knight), to don blackface and take the stage in the singer's place, with chaotic consequences.
Since exiting "Grey's Anatomy," Knight has been cast in the Los Angeles transfer of Rob Ashford's Donmar Warehouse production of the Jason Robert Brown-Alfred Uhry musical, "Parade," opening in September at the Mark Taper Forum.
Tucci last appeared on Broadway opposite Edie Falco in the 2002 revival of Terrence McNally's "Frankie and Johnny in the Clair de Lune," landing a Tony nom for lead actor.
No other cast has been announced for the "Tenor" revival.
