Former K2 Pictures principal Jay Peterson has joined Original Media, where he's been named senior VP of production and development.

Peterson will be based in New York and oversee day-to-day operations, production and creative development at the shingle, which is behind NBC's new drama "The Philanthropist." He'll manage the Original Media staff in both New York and Los Angeles and handle talent, co-production and network deals, as well as domestic and international sales.

Exec reports to Original Media CEO Charlie Corwin.

"I expect that Jay's considerable skills will elevate our programming slate and further expand our business and brand," Corwin said.

Beyond "Philanthropist," Original Media is behind the nonscripted series "LA Ink," "The Rachel Zoe Project" and "Storm Chasers." Company, a subsidiary of Endemol USA, also has 10 projects in various stages of development set up at NBC, Discovery, Bravo, TLC, History, Animal Planet and HGTV.

In film, Original is producing the feature "Twelve," starring Chace Crawford, Emma Roberts, Kiefer Sutherland and Curtis "50 Cent" Jackson. Company also produced the indie films "Half Nelson" and "The Squid and the Whale."

At K2, Peterson worked on projects with ESPN, Spike, VH1, Mark Burnett, HBO and NBC, among other entities.

Before that, he was director of original programming and development at VH1, working on series such as "Storytellers" and "Divas Live." Peterson's resume includes stints at MTV Networks and ABC's "World News Tonight."
