As already announced, Groening will pick up the inaugural Mipcom Creative Icon Award at a gala dinner as part of “The Simpsons” 20th anniversary celebrations.
Running Oct. 5-6, Rethinking will feature keynotes, conferences, networking opportunities and, in another departure for Mipcom, content screenings.
Other Rethinking events include a global market update from Cologne-based format rights protection org Frapa and a screening by Paris-based research company the Wit of recent worldwide standout shows, which has become a popular Mip TV and Mipcom staple.
Also at Rethinking, international film commissions will present new incentives for TV producers, while a Games2TV2Games Summit will focus on the impact of gaming on the production biz.
Rethinking aims to “help producers find funding, new streams of revenue, international partners and meet up with top industry leaders,” Laurine Garaude, acting director of Reed Midem’s TV division, said Thursday.
Garaude also announced that Mipcom will be offering a special E650 ($910) registration rate for first-time producer attendees.
Mipcom takes place Oct. 5-9. It is organized by Reed Midem which, like Daily Variety, is part of Reed Elsevier.
