'I Hate Valentine's Day' marks directing debut

The third annual Los Angeles Greek Film Fest kicks off Thursday, with the world premiere of IFC Films' "I Hate Valentine's Day" screening on Saturday.

Nia Vardalos makes her directing debut in the romance, in which she co-stars with her "My Big Fat Greek Wedding" co-star John Corbett. "I Hate Valentine's Day" screens at 7:30 at the Egyptian Theater, followed by a Q&A with Vardalos and producers William Sherak and Jason Shuman.

The opening night gala screening is "Small Crime," with films from Greece, Cyprus and filmmakers of Greek descent worldwide screening through Sunday. Friday evening, a tribute to helmer Penelope Spheeris will feature a screening of her 1984 punk rock drama "Suburbia." Go to lagreekfilmfestival.org for ticket info.
