Ditlow began her career in the media and entertainment industry in the 1960s as secretary and assistant to the General Manager of WITF Public Television in Hershey, Penn. From there she moved to production positions with the Komack Company as assistant to Peter B. Stern and Whitman-Riche Productions in the 1970s and 1980s.
Ditlow's 22-year-career with the Writers Guild of America, West began in the 1980s. During her tenure she served as the assistant to then-Executive Director Brian Walton and as secretary to the Board of Directors. She also oversaw guild elections and performed duties related to the annual Writers Guild Awards ceremonies.
